The Wine Country Comes to Homes on the Eastside
If you have ever stood staring at labels in the wine section at your local grocery store or wandered into a wine shop and felt completely lost, have no fear. Alison Schlegel is here to help.
As an Independent Wine Consultant for WineShop at Home, Schlegel of Bothell provides in-home wine tastings on the Eastside.
“I’ve always enjoyed sharing wine with friends and love to bring that experience to my hosts and their guests,” says Schlegel. "The in-home wine tastings are designed to allow folks to enjoy some great new wines and maybe learn something new in the process.”
These personal, fun events, held in local homes on the Eastside and normally consisting of 12-16 people, are a great way to learn about wine, food pairings and more importantly, to have a good time.
Six bottles of boutique wine are sent to the host and Schlegel guides the group through a tasting of each one during the event. These limited production wines cannot be found in stores locally, so the tastings are a great opportunity to find some new favorites in a relaxed, casual environment. The guests are encouraged to try different cheeses and other light hor ‘doeuvres while sampling to experience the way food can affect the taste of wine. The wines can then be ordered at the tasting and are delivered directly to the home of the buyer. Other offerings from WineShop at Home, such as wine club membership and personalized gifts, are presented during the event as well.
“My job,” continues Schlegel “is to educate people about wine, but most of all to provide a fun experience. There is great variety in the wines presented so even the most particular fan will find something they like.”
